The Creator Of IIT Roorkee Tower Passes Away

Dr. Aditya Kumar Kamal, who created the 15-storey communication tower in the Electronics and Communication Engineering Department of University of Roorkee (now known as IIT Roorkee) passed away on 19th April, 2018 at the age of 92 in USA. He was working as a Chief Engineer in the Waltham-based ARCON Corporation. He had a great passion for working. His last working day was one day before his death, i.e. 18th April, 2018. Dr. Aditya Kamal, known as Adit to his friends, was born in Kairana village of Muzaffarnagar district of U.P. He studied for his B.Sc. physics degree at BHU and got Masters in Science degree from Allahabad University followed by another Masters in Science degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His doctorate degree was from the University of Paris. He worked in various capacities in England, France, USA and India. As the Head of the newly created Electronics and Communication Department at the University of Roorkee, he established state-of-the-art facilities which included construction of the communication tower which stands tall and magnificent till date, as an important landmark of not only IIT Roorkee but of the entire Roorkee city. This tower is visible from a distance of 20-25 km.
