The doyen of Indian Photographers, Lala Deen Dayal was born in 1844 at Sardhana in Meerut in United Provinces. He received technical education at Thomason Civil Engineering College in Roorkee after which he joined as head estimator and draftsmen in the Public Works Department at Indore. The ruler of Indore, Maharaja Tukoji II, encouraged him to set up his studio there. Sir Henry Daly the Agent to the Governor General encouraged him. According to his Memoirs, he was thus able to obtain the patronage of Lord North Brook the Governor General of India in 1874.
Giving wheels to the differently abled and wings to their dreams
Harish Kumar decided to take a break from work. Armed with an M.Sc from IIT Roorkee and an M.Tech from IIT Delhi, by 2012, he’d almost spent two decades in the telecom space. IIT alumni establish digital library at Jhajjar village
A group of IIT alumni from New Delhi, Roorkee and Kharagpur has established a digital library at Government Senior Secondary School in the district’s Palra village.
It has access to the digital library of IIT-Kharagpur, where more than 1.5 crore books on several subjects are available in 16 languages.

Researchers from IIT Roorkee have developed organic dyes in collaboration with CSIR-NCL Pune that can increase the efficiency of Dye-Sensitised Solar Cells (DSSC). The team of researchers led by Dr. M. Sankar, Associate Professor, Department of Chemistry, IIT Roorkee, have worked to improve the photovoltaic conversion efficiencies of an organic dye called porphyrin for DSSC applications.
